Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Generative Engine Optimization is the process of improving the information and authority signals that help AI-driven search and answer systems understand and reference a brand.

GEO overlaps with SEO, content strategy and digital PR. It is not a replacement for them, and it is not a way to force a model to mention a company.

What GEO Can Include

  • Content restructuring and question coverage
  • Concise factual answers and topic depth
  • Entity clarity and brand consistency
  • Schema markup where it is valid
  • Internal linking and information architecture
  • Source quality and third-party authority
  • Original evidence, data and content freshness
  • Technical discoverability

What GEO Is Not

GEO is not a way to force an AI system to mention a company.

There is no universal ranking position and no legitimate agency can guarantee a particular model will cite a specific page.

The goal is to systematically improve the signals that make your company easier to retrieve, understand and trust. That can improve the likelihood of mentions and citations; it cannot guarantee them.

Where GEO Connects to Other Work

Content changes often sit in AI content optimization. Entity consistency is covered in entity and brand authority. Crawl and schema issues belong in technical SEO. Source gaps may need digital PR.

Discuss a GEO Strategy

If you already have organic search coverage but weak AI visibility, GEO work should start from measurement rather than from a content calendar.
